'of affording you our formal recognition of the Anti-Axis Association of Burma. We prefer [however] to give you our whole-hearted assurance of military aid only, and leave the political questions in regard to the absorption of the Anti-japanese forces after the war to the recognised Government of Burma, to whom we are referring the matter; but we should like to point out to you that it is up to the forces of the interior to show their worth, and if they fulfil the trust which we propose placing in them, then the Civil Government will be unable to ignore their demands.' 2
